Hawkesbury sexual violence
Aims and Objectives:
- To increase community awareness of the issues for people who have been subjected to sexual violence (recently or historically)
- To promote an inclusive and coordinated community response within the Hawkesbury to people who have been subjected to sexual violence
- To maintain a commitment to meaningful and active consultation with community members
- To advocate for the development and improvement of services and resources for people who have been subjected to sexual violence
- To promote and facilitate opportunities for training and skills development for workers who provide services for people who have been subjected to sexual violence
- To promote and facilitate the provision of preventative/educational programs/resources around the issues of sexual violence, informed consent and healthy, respectful relationships
- To provide a safe and open forum for the exchange of information and ideas about issues pertaining to sexual violence
- To explore funding opportunities which facilitate the achievement of any of the above aims
What is sexual violence?
Sexual violence happens when a person is forced into any unwanted sexual activity. It is any sexual behaviour a person has not explicitly agreed to. It includes instances:
- where physical or emotional force is used;
- where informed consent cannot be given because the person in under the influence of alcohol or other drugs; or
- where a person is physically or intellectually incapable of giving consent.
